Those lovely people at the Sci Fi channel whisked us away last night to London’s Natural History Museum for a preview of the pilot episode of the V reboot.
And we were mighty impressed by what we saw – the series features a Lost/FlashForward-esque ensemble cast (many of whom you’ll recognise from other sci-fi shows) and has taken a 21st-century spin on the original with dark undercurrents of terrorism running throughout the pilot.
Sci Fi will be airing the series early next year (thus getting around the rather annoying season break that’s facing American fans), but here are five teasers to whet your appetite…
1. Remember how Elizabeth Mitchell kicked ass as the surprisingly ruthless Juliet Burke in Lost. Well, expect more of the same here. Don’t make her angry…
2. The ‘visitors’ are rather cylon-number-six-esque – great looking, perfect posture, weirdly clam and a rather creepy obsession with superficial beauty.
3. Oh feck - why would you call one of your characters Father Jack?
4. Along with Juliet off Lost, keep your eyes peeled forSupergirl off Smallville, the Ambassador from Firefly, Tom from The 4400 and Alpha from Dollhouse. And don’t assume that being a big sci-fi name means you’re safe in V-land.
5. Some say the Vs are evil and want to destroy humanity – but perhaps not all of the aliens are bad guys…
Remember V: The Series? That gripping 1980s alien invasion show starring Marc Singer, with the baddies eating everyone’s pet rats and generally trying to wipe out the human race? Well, the remake is going to be on in the US in November, and we’re hoping we’ll be seeing the extra-terrestrials for ourselves not too long after that.
The revamp will star Lost’s Elizabeth Mitchell and Party of Five star Scott Wolf and it looks like the special effects might be just a tad better than the original. The ABC site for V is still a bit spartan, but it’s showing signs of promise, including the chance to sign up as a ‘peace ambassador’ - though that link isn’t fully working yet.
In the meantime, here’s the trailer:
And here’s a clip from the old one. Somehow this scene seemed a lot more terrifying when I was 10.
