In the latest issue of TV & Satellite Week…

 tvsw38-cover.jpg

We’ve got lots of extremely non-American comedy in the mag this week, but all the shows promise to be top-notch:

• There’s the cringe-tastic Peep Show, featuring TV & Sat favourites Mitchell and Webb

• The people who brought you Gavin & Stacey may have struck comedy gold again with Home Time, about a 29-year-old woman forced to move back in with her folks

•  The embarrassment continues with the return of How Not to Live Your Life, with rising star Dan Clark as the self-absorbed man-boy with a knack for putting his foot in it.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to bring some glamour to the weekend, with a new batch of famous faces preparing to keep the world’s sequin producers in business for several years.

• All this, plus David Hasselhoff as you’ve never seen him before, farmers looking for love (those items aren’t connected), France’s answer to The Wire, and all the latest news in TVSpy.

Go on, take a Peep at our Show!

TV Spylights | The pick of the past week on TV Spy

Spylights, wk45

• Jeremy got curious about the whereabouts of the stars who appeared in some of our favourite shows of yore, so he did some detective work and tracked down most of the cast of Ally McBeal and then he did the same for the actors who made their name on Saved by the Bell. Give that man a deerstalker hat!

• Jonathan realised that the main star of Fringe isn’t heart-throb Joshua Jackson or stunning newcomer Anna Torv - it’s John Noble, with his fantastic performance as mad-as-cheese scientist Walter Bishop. Now can we get him to explain the Large Hadron Collider to us, please?

• After all the hype, we finally tracked down a proper clip of little Katie Holmes’ star turn in Eli Stone. She’s got the older hubby, she’s got the high-kicking down to a fine art - Look out, Catherine Zeta Jones, there’s a new kid in town!

• Talking of new kids in town, Ben and Gareth were back with another fine Heroes vodcast. I can almost guarantee this is the only place you will find Heroes and The Chuckle Brothers mentioned in one breath… And have you seen Sylar’s latest incarnation?

• The comparisons don’t stop there - apparently there are some uncanny similarities between characters in The Wire and Premier League players.

• Always save the best to last…. we found a trailer for SERIES FIVE OF LOST!

‘Nuff said. See you all next week!

Pick of the Day | Monday 22 September

2) Fringe actress Anna Torv was previously the face behind the character of Nariko in the Playstation 3 game Heavenly Sword.

3) HBO shows such as Sex and the City and The Wire are now available to buy from the UK iTunes store.

4) Duran Duran bassist John Taylor will guest in Samantha Who?.

5) The Wire’s David Simon is working on a new drama about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.

Pick of the Day | Monday 15 September

Criminal Intent

9pm, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Hallmark

Detectives Logan and Wheeler have to decipher whether the murder of a young pregnant Muslim women was down to a racist attack or that the bad blood between her family and that of her Italian boyfriend had more to do with the incident.

9pm, One Tree Hill, E4

OTH episodes are usually packed to the rafters with shocking and entertaining moments and this one is no different. Jamie has his birthday party that involves a scary clown that Deb flirts with, Brooke and Peyton struggle to cope with their newfound parenthood and Dan reveals his ever so important secret. That’s without even mentioning Lucas trying to get back with Lindsey. This really is the show where if you blink you will miss it.

10pm, The Wire, FX

Chief of Staff Steintorf visits Rawls and Daniels at police headquarters and demands more arrests on the streets so a drop in crime figures can be seen by the public. Soon afterwards the department have the chance to take down Marlo’s crew and $16million worth of Heroin, which they indeed do. But although there is cause for celebration at first, repercussions from these arrests are right around the corner…

Pick of the Day | Monday 8 September

One Tree Hill, season five - Brooke, Haley and Peyton

9pm, One Tree Hill, E4
Nathan and Haley are all loved up again, and decide to hire a nanny so they can both work on getting their careers back on track - you’ll never guess who they plump for. Meanwhile, Lucas is back in town, still living in cloud cuckoo land thinking he can get Lindsay back, and Brooke is somehow allowed to foster a seriously ill baby from abroad who has been brought to the US for specialist treatment. If there was a competition for programmes most needing suspension of disbelief, OTH would definitely beat the rest - even Prison Break!

9pm, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Hallmark
The one and only Liza Minnelli guest-stars in this episode, in a storyline that strongly resembles the JonBenet Ramsey murder case from the 1990s. Minnelli plays the mother of a child pageant star who was murdered several years earlier, and takes a shine to Goren when he reinvestigates the case after new evidence comes to light.

10pm, The Wire, FX
McNulty finally cracks under the pressure of maintaining his manufactured serial killer case and spills all to Kima and Beadie. Probably for the best, since the FBI’s profile of the alleged killer comes up a lot like Jimmy! He is developing a touch of the psycho about him… Meanwhile Sydnor is hours away from cracking the clocks code, Carcetti makes some dangerous political deals, and Omar’s attempts to smoke out Marlo come to a head.
