It’s a Sawyer-centric episode (sigh) and his profession in the flashsideways is, to put it mildly, a bit of a surprise, while there is also a back-from-the-dead appearance from a familiar character.

9pm, The Mentalist, Five
In a fab haunted house episode, Rigsby confesses his feelings to Grace as they search the supposedly haunted house after the owner is found dead. Was it a suicide or was he the victim of supernatural forces?

9pm, NCIS, FX & FX HD
The team investigate the shooting of a marine and find out that there is more to his life than anyone would ever have imagined.

10pm, True Blood,  FX & FX  HD
Lafayette finds himself reluctantly pulled back into Eric’s orbit, Bill and Sookie head to Dallas where their limo driver attempts to abduct Sookie.

10pm, Criminal Minds, Living
British rocker Gavin Rossdale, who we all know better as Mr Gwen Stefani, guests as a Goth rockerwho the BAU link to the murders of several young women. Does his vampire stage act mirror a real-life thirst for blood?

Tonight we get a Ben-centric episode. Now if Ben wasn’t engimatic enough, in  his flashsideways he is a mild-mannered history teacher who is mentoring a familiar face from the island. Can this show get more mind-boggling?

9pm, The Mentalist, Five
Jane and the team investigate the murder of a powerful defence attorney who represented one of California’s most notorious motorcycle gangs, the Sinner Saints.  Did his affair with the lover of the gang’s lead lead to his demise?

9pm, NCIS, FX & FX HD
An episode not to miss. Veteran actress Gena Rowlands guest as Gibbs’ former mother-in-law Joanne who’s a witness in a murder case. As the show flashbacks to when Gibbs was married to Joanne’s daughter Shannon, the younger Gibbs is played by Mark Harmon’s real-life son, Sean.

10pm, True Blood,  FX & FX  HD
When Sookie is attacked by a mysterious creature, Bill must team up with Eric to save her. Jason begins to have second thoughts about the Light of Day retreat.

10pm, Criminal Minds, Living
As Morgan heads up the BAU for the first time, the unit is called to Oklahoma City to assist local police track down a particulary gruesome serial killer who removes the eyes of his murder victims and keeps them as souvenirs.

Starsky and Hutch’s much-loved Paul Michael Glaser guests in tonight’s episode as the CBI investigate the death of a senator’s aide who was rumoured to have had an affair with the senator’s husband.

After one of the drivers of a shady shipping company is found dead, Gibbs and the team take to the road to bust an illegal trucking operation.

10pm, True Blood,  FX & FX  HD
NEW SERIES Hurrah, the raunchy vampire series is back, but the course of true love does not run smoothly for Sookie and Bill when she learns of his involvement in her uncle’s death.

10pm, Criminal Minds, Living
Morgan gets close to a victim’s siters when the BAU set out to track down a gang of killers who seem to be targeting rich new residents in a working-class neighbourhood of Washington DC.

NEW SERIES
There is something very likeable about this series, not least Simon Baker’s performance as former fake TV psychic turned crime solver Patrick Jane. As the second series opens, Jane is not happy to be taken off the Red John case - the serial killer who murdered his wife and daughter.

9pm Lost, Sky1 & Sky1 HD
After last week’s Kate’s story, this week we find out what Locke’s life would have been like if the plane hadn’t crashed on the island. Okay, he would still have been paralysed, but it isn’t all bad.

9pm NCIS, FX & FX  HD
A terrorist group threatens to detonate a dirty bomb on a bus in Washinton DC and the team are in a race against time to avert disaster.

10pm, Criminal Minds, Living
Rossi reluctantly returns to his home town in Long Island as the unit tries to track down a serial killer who has murdered three people, mutilating each victim in a different manner.

Sparks fly between Patrick Jane and the girlfriend of a murdered businessman, who turns out to be a con-artist intent on getting her hands on his $10million fortune. So why, despite the obvious motive and the woman’s duplicity, does Jane believe there is more to the crime than meets the eye?

Difficult issues of life and death are addressed by Addison and Charlotte in this moving episode, as they try to save the life of a pregnant woman who has fallen into a coma. Simon Baker’s more ardent female fans will be heartbroken to hear that the actress playing an actress in tonight’s episode is Simon’s real-life wife Rebecca Rigg. There’s a welcome break from the Red John tension, but Jane reveals his more merciless side as he investigates a movie producer’s death.

The boys capture their latest soul, but the demon has left behind a baby, so Sam and his pals have to take care of her. As if that wasn’t enough to deal with, Sock decides on a rather drastic course of action to stop him fancying his step-sister.

Turtle gets some flash birthday gifts from Vince and Jamie-Lynn, making him reconsider his career path, so he turns to Ari for advice, and Eric gets nervous about Charlie’s pilot based on feedback from his latest girlfriend. Well, we say girlfriend. Obviously ‘fling’ would be a more accurate term.

NEW COMEDY Well, not strictly new - it was on Trouble before, but you may have missed it. It stars Bret Harrison, who is now of course in Reaper. Bret plays Sam (there must be something in his contract), a young man who lands a job as an airline executive, but then has to find a balance between work and his hectic social life with his slacker friends. The pilot is great, but the reviews we’ve read implies it takes a dive toward the end of the series…

NEW SERIES Sam, Sock and Ben are back, but Sam’s still reeling from the news that he’s the son of Satan. As if life couldn’t get any worse, he manages to lose his job and his apartment tonight. There is light at the end of the tunnel though, courtesy of another escaped soul who wrangled his way out of a devilish deal…

9pm, My Own Worst Enemy, Sci-Fi & HD
Henry thinks he’s meeting with an FBI agent, but when he admits that Edward works for Janus, the agent pulls a gun on him, and it leads to some very interesting information about Norah Skinner.

9pm & 10pm, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Hallmark
The first of tonight’s episodes is entitled Please Note We are No Longer Accepting Letters of Recommendation from Henry Kissinger’, unless you haven’t got a widescreen telly, in which case it’ll just be ‘No Longer Accepting Letters of Recommendation’ which just sounds like they’re fed up with aspiring scriptwriters.

A socialite is murdered at a party at her home, and a napkin with a particularly vicious message is found at the scene. Unfortunately, for all the social niceties of her circle of friends, there’s really not a lot of love lost between the ladies, and it’s not easy to narrow down the list of suspects.

In an eventful episode, Cal reveals things about his past when he becomes obsessed with a series of suicides, and Torres notices that the case is taking its toll on him. Meanwhile, Gillian and Eli help the Feds determine whether the head of a Wall Street investment firm really did ‘lose’ hundreds of millions from investors.

A couple come to the clinic to find out why they can’t conceive, but there’s a shocking outcome. Brace yourselves, it’s even crazier than you might imagine. Cooper turns to estranged pal Violet for help when he realises he has head lice, and during a touching moment of hair-washing he confesses about his affair with Charlotte. It’s like one of those ads that try to make lice shampoo sexy.

NEW SERIES Christian Slater gets his first big telly role as a mild-mannered family man who is horrified to discover he’s got a government-implanted micro-chip in his brain that means he turns into a violent superspy when his controllers flick a switch, and his life gets exceedingly complicated as his two worlds collide.

Hallmark are speeding things up with their new Thursday night double-bills of the show. Goren tries to win brownie points with an undercover op at a prison psychiatric ward where his nephew’s an inmate; and Logan and Falacci investigate the execution-style murder of three young college freshmen.
