Sat, 6.30pm, The Simpsons, Sky1

And check out the episode at 10.30, which features unlikely guest stars Radiohead.

Sun, 9pm, Burn Notice, FX
The first series comes to an end tonight, with Michael launching a daring bid to rescue the kidnapped Sam. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, he ups the drama by by giving himself up to the government agency trying to trace him in the hopes that they’ll say why he was fired. Surely it can’t be that easy? You’ll have to wait a while to find out - Burn Notice returns to FX in the autumn. The suspense!

Sun, 10pm, John from Cincinnati, FX
In this episode of the mysterious drama series, Ramon (Luis Guzmán) oversees a construction project at the motel, Palaka seeks medical treatment from Dr Smith after a new tattoo develops a terrible infection, and Linc (Luke Perry) is perturbed to find his authority at Stinkweed being threatened.

This weekend’s big US shows

SVU ep ‘Parts’

Fri, 10pm, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Five
Tonight’s double bill brings the sixth season of the Law & Order spin-off to a characteristically grisly close - poor Stabler and Benson must be well up for a holiday. In the first episode, ‘Parts’, the SVU is called in after an ex-soldier’s severed head is found in a junkyard. The grim discovery is just the beginning - it seems that an underground organisation has been trading in body parts…

The military theme continues in season finale ‘Goliath’ at 11pm, as the unit investigates the psychotic behaviour of two army reservists who recently returned from Afghanistan and attacked their wives. Did something happen to the men while they were away to prompt such violent actions? And if the Army is to blame, does the SVU have a hope of proving it?

Sat, 7pm, King of the Hill, FX
Four delicious new episodes kick off tonight with ‘Lady and Gentrification’, in which Hank agrees to make a speech at a party for the daughter of Enrique (guest voice Danny Trejo) - a decision which has unforeseen consequences. Next up is ‘Behind Closed Doors’, in which Peggy becomes overprotective after a child goes missing, and ‘Pour Some  Sugar on Kahn’, which sees Kahn heading to the bar to avoid Minh’s father. Rounding off the evening’s visit to Arlen is ‘Six Characters in Search of a House’, in which Peggy recruits some actors to help her sell a property.

Sun, 9pm, Burn Notice, FX
Like SVU, Burn Notice is drawing to a close, with tonight’s episode the penultimate of the current run. The first of a two-parter, it sees our hero attempting to arrange a meeting with the man he suspects is responsible for burning him (The West Wing’s Richard Schiff, who we also spotted on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles yesterday. Meanwhile, Sam takes on the case of a woman being forced to smuggle heroin into the United States - and ends up kidnapped!

Hurrah! A new outing for Springfield’s First Family. In ‘Love Springfieldian Style’, Homer, Marge and Bart get themselves stranded in a carnival’s Tunnel of Love ride and pass the time by sharing some of history’s greatest love stories. Marge and Homer take on the roles of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, and there are parodies of Lady and the Tramp and Sid and Nancy. What’s not to like?

Sun, 10pm, John from Cincinnati, FX
More from Deadwood creator David Milch’s latest project. In this episode, Butchie organises a reunion between Shaun and Tina - good luck with that one! Elsewhere,
John helps Bill and Cissy to face their pasts. Will his wise words have any effect on the troubled twosome?

This weekend’s big US dramas

Christopher Meloni, Alfred Molina and Angela Lansbury in Law and Order SVU ep ‘Night’

Fri, 10pm, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Five
This season of SVU has featured more guest stars than you can shake a stick at! In the past few weeks we’ve seen Martin Short, Matthew Modine and Heroes‘ Hayden Panettiere, and tonight’s first episode sees Alfred Molina and Angela Lansbury getting in on the action as Benson and Stabler probe a rape and murder case which leads them into the clutches of a powerful family. Elsewhere, Novak is attacked while working on the case late at night - not the first time that the feisty ADA has been put at risk in the line of duty.

In tonight’s second episode, Benson and Stabler investigate when a woman is sexually assaulted and her baby thrown out of a car. As the detectives dig deeper, they unravel a complicated story of addiction, abuse, desperation and robbery. Just another day at the SVU.

Sun, 9pm, Burn Notice, FX
SVU doesn’t have the monopoly on guest stars - this week’s Burn Notice features none other than Lucy Lawless, who plays Michael’s latest client and worked with BN’s Sam - Bruce Campbell - on Xena: Warrior Princess. The case proves an emotional one for Michael, who is hired to track down the woman’s estranged husband and her missing son. Can our hero put his personal feelings aside and get the job done?

Sun, 10pm, John from Cincinnati, FX
Shaun’s porn-star mother Tina (Chandra West, 90210, NYPD Blue) continues to make her presence known this week, as she lets the Yost family know that she is back in town - much to the displeasure of Cissy (Rebecca De Mornay). Elsewhere, Bill receives a strange mandate from Zippy.

Sun, 10pm, Desperate Housewives, E4
In the last visit to Wisteria Lane until next year, the poor old Scavos have got more trouble to deal with care of naughty son Porter. Could he really have started the fateful fire at the club? Susan’s also having a bad week - no surprise there, then - as she realises that she has lost Mike for good. It’s not all bad, though - Carlos finds out that he might be able to get his sight back, and Bree’s cooking demonstration provides some comic relief when it goes somewhat awry.

This weekend’s big US dramas

Ice-T and Martin Short in Law & Order: SVU ep ‘Pure’

Fri, 10pm, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Five
A double bill of the crime drama kicks off with a bizarre missing-persons case for Stabler and the gang. In ‘Pure’, the SVU detectives encounter a man claiming to be a psychic (guest star Martin Short, in a part miles away from his goofy Father of the Bride and Three Amigos roles) with information on a missing teenager. When the man’s predictions start proving strangely accurate, Stabler wonders if he’s more involved in the case than he’s letting on.

In the second episode of the night, ‘Intoxicated’, the world-weary ‘tecs encounter what appears to be a modern-day Romeo and Juliet - the latter played by Danielle Panabaker, previously seen as James Woods’ infuriating daughter Julie in Shark. The girl’s mother (Cathy Moriarty of Raging Bull) is unhappy about the relationship - did this have something to do with her then being found bludgeoned to death?

Sun, 9pm, Burn Notice, FX
A young man who house-sits for the fabulously wealthy is Michael’s client this week, desperately hoping that the former spy can rescue his fiancée from a gang of kidnappers. It seems that the man’s willingness to let the young lady believe that he was the owner of the luxury pad has made the kidnappers think he’s got a $5 million ransom to hand… whoops. Michael might be a bit distracted though - he’s started looking into his burn notice and is about to put himself in a spot of danger. Star Jeffrey Donovan can currently be seen on the big screen, playing opposite Angelina Jolie in new Clint Eastwood thriller Changeling.

Sun, 9pm, Fringe, Sky1
Savour this episode, Fringe fans - it’s your last one before the show takes a break. It’s back next year, but until then you can get your teeth into the mysterious case of a robber found embedded in the wall of a bank vault. Walter is shocked to discover that the people he’s after can not only defy the laws of physics but are after something that only he has…

Sun, 10pm, Desperate Housewives, E4
As if last season’s deadly tornado wasn’t enough, the Wisteria Lane residents now have another disaster to contend with: a raging inferno at the Battle of the Bands. As the flames lick the walls, it soon becomes apparent that not everyone is going to survive… Elsewhere in the episode, Julie returns - with surprising new boyfriend in tow; Gabby and Carlos find out they’ve had a rather nice windfall; and Lynette finds out that Porter and Anne (guest star Gail O’Grady, NYPD Blue) plan to leave Fairview.

Sun, 10pm, John from Cincinnati, FX
There’s a new face in town this week as Shaun’s mother Tina arrives in Imperial Beach. Played by Chandra West (whose credits include parts on NYPD Blue and the new 90210, as well as doomed rookie Holly Gribbs in the first-ever CSI), Tina is an adult-film star… so she’s bound to cause a stir. Also this week, John falls foul of some thugs, Kai makes a connection with Butchie and Vietnam Joe brings Dr Smith a new patient.

This weekend’s big US dramas

Stabler (Christopher Meloni, L) and Rickett (Matthew Modine) in Law & Order: SVU season 6 ep 17: Rage

Fri, 10pm, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Five
A big-name guest star for the gritty crime drama series this week, as Matthew Modine appears as a face from Stabler’s past. Modine plays Gordon Rickett, a suspected child-rapist and killer who Stabler was unable to convict 14 years previously. Will the notoriously volatile Stabler be able to keep his hatred for the suspect in check as the two meet in the interrogation room once again?

Sun, 9pm, Burn Notice, FX
Fiona gets in on the act in this week’s helping of chisel-jawed ex-spy capers. She’s decided to try her hand at a spot of bounty-hunting, but when she tracks the bail-jumper down she comes to the conclusion that he’s innocent of his supposed crime - stealing a £2 million diamond brooch. Will Michael help Fiona to find the real thief - or is he content to take a back seat for once?

Sun, 9pm, Fringe, Sky1
As we near the halfway point of JJ Abrams’ latest mind-bending creation, there’s another head-scratcher for the team when a swarm of imaginary butterflies prompts a Massive Dynamic employee to leap out of a window to his death. Scott proves to be useful in the ensuing investigation - much to his ex-partner (and ex-lover) Olivia’s frustration. Meanwhile, Peter’s past comes back to haunt him when some old enemies find out that he’s back in Boston.

Sun, 10pm, John from Cincinnati, FX
More strange goings-on for the residents of Imperial Beach tonight in Deadwood creator David Milch’s drama. Dr Smith is convinced that something miraculous occurred in Shaun’s hospital room to bring him back. Meanwhile, Cass comforts Mitch (Bruce Greenwood), who is unaware of her connection to Linc (Luke Perry)…

Sun, 10pm, Desperate Housewives, E4
Wisteria Lane has never been a good place to try and keep anything quiet, spectacularly proved by this week’s visit. The Scavos are stunned to learn about wayward son Porter’s scandalous relationship with Anne; Mrs McCluskey’s splendid sister Roberta (guest star Lily Tomlin) uncovers some very interesting information about the mysterious Dave (Neal McDonough, whose credits include Band of Brothers and short-lived cop show Boomtown); and the truth about Katherine comes out. Surely there can’t be any secrets left in this street?

Five amazing facts about John From Cincinnati

683793628_145e0626c41.jpg

We’re already getting excited about paranormal surf drama John From Cincinnati’s imminent arrival on FX in November, and have just discovered the following five facts:

1) The mysterious John in the series’ title isn’t really called John and doesn’t come from Cincinnati. Rumour has it that he could controversially possibly even be Jesus Christ.

2) The story takes place over the course of 9 days, and was filmed in and around Imperial Beach, California. Most of the city’s 27,500 inhabitants were happy about the crew’s arrival, with everyone from local schoolkids to a couple in their 70s landing parts as extras.

3) The show premiered in the US to critical acclaim. ‘As profane as Deadwood and as profoundas The Sopranos, the series strikes every right chord,’ said the New York Post, while LA Weekly called it, ‘Mesmerising and entertainingly confounding.’

4) Wipeout! The series was cancelled in the US straight after the season 1 finale. Boooo!

5) Things are looking up for newcomer Austin Nichols who plays John (pictured above) as he’s just joined the cast of One Tree Hill for season 6.

More about John From Cincinnati soon, but in the meantime, here’s another trailer…

Luke Perry is back in John From Cincinnati!

Luke Perry as Linc

90210 fans rejoice! Luke Perry may not be returning to the Peach Pit just yet, but he will be starring in gritty new surfer drama John From Cincinnati which is coming to FX in November.

The series, created by Deadwood’s David Milch, tells the story of surfing’s most dysfunctional family, the Yosts, who, despite their amazing surfboard talents, live a meagre life on California’s Imperial Beach. Their lives are thrown into chaos when the mysterious John Monad (Austin Nichols) suddenly arrives, triggering all kinds of paranormal events.

Perry is cash hungry promoter Linc Stark, who is still blamed for standing  by while his former client and star surfer Butchie Yost (Brian Van Holt) became hooked on drugs. The series co-stars Rebecca de Mornay as matriarch Cissy Yost and Bruce Greenwood as her zenned out husband Mitch Yost.

And Luke Perry isn’t the only blast from the past in the show. Saved by the Bell alumnus Mark-Paul ‘Zach Morris’ Gosselaar stars as Linc’s business partner Jake Ferris, while Sex and the City’s Willie Garson (Stanford Blatch) plays brilliantly-named lawyer and surf fan Meyer Dickstein.
