Pete’s Pick of the Day | Tuesday 6 October

8pm, Stargate Universe, Sky1 & HD
NEW SERIES The fourth TV spin-off in the popular Stargate franchise launches with a feature-length pilot in which a group of soldiers, civilians and scientists – lead by the brilliant Dr Nicholas Rush (played by Robert Carlyle) – are forced to flee through a stargate when their military base on a distant planet comes under attack. On the other side, they find on an abandoned spaceship called Destiny, billions of light years from Earth. The group must now unlock Destiny’s secrets in order to survive.

It’s Fashion Week in the Big Apple and Betty has to work with an eccentric new designer. She is also forced to re-assess her opinion of fellow YETI candidate Matt, who works on a sports magazine. Meanwhile, there’s high drama on the catwalk when Christina goes into labour.

9pm, CSI: Miami, Five
Horatio clashes with defence attorney Derek Powell (guest star Sean Combs) when he becomes convinced that an innocent man has been sent to prison for the murder of a young woman, and that Powell is standing in the way of justice.

9pm, Ghost Whisperer, Living
SERIES FINALE There are plenty of spooky goings-on as the fourth series concludes with a double-bill. First up, Melinda’s wedding plans are interrupted by a vampire stalking a young woman (guest star Alexa Vega), then Melinda is haunted by dreams that threaten her child.

9pm, Chuck, Virgin1
The CIA think Chuck and Sarah are too emotionally involved, so a cold, efficient female agent called Alex Forrest (guest star Tricia Helfer) is sent in to assess, and possibly replace, Sarah as Chuck’s handler.

9pm, Warehouse 13, Sci-Fi & HD
While investigating the theft of a sculpture, Myka and Pete find the trail leads to a sacred Indian cave. Let hope they’re not too scared of the dark.

When a little girl uncovers a haunted dollhouse hidden in her attic, Melinda has to work out whether the ghosts possessing the dollhouse are linked to a family’s mysterious death.

9pm, Chuck, Virgin1
Chuck is contacted by Orion, the mastermind behind the Intersect computer, and has to decide whether to trust the mysterious scientist, who may be able to erase the Intersect from his mind, or Sarah and Casey.

9pm, Warehouse 13, Sci-Fi & HD
A woman who holds Artie responsible for the death of her brother abducts him. Oh dear, now where’s that wishing kettle?

Following the murder of a wealthy racehorse owner, Horatio discovers a link to Mark Gantry, an associate of Ryan, and possible criminal connections to the Russian Mob.

The cast and crew of a soap opera descend on Grandview to film an episode, but end up turning the town upside down. Meanwhile, a miraculous development in Melinda’s life changes everything for her and Jim.

Chuck, Sarah and Casey find out about a scientist called Perseus, who seems to be behind Fulcrum’s plans to build its own intersect. Meanwhile, Morgan struggles to tell Anna that he wants to move in with Chuck instead of her.

Pete and Myka look into the strange goings on in a town where the residents’ minds have been altered so that they all do as they please.

Chuck breaks up with his minder Sarah at the urging of his sister Ellie, but then become jealous when Sarah has to seduce a handsome agent, codenamed Beefcake, to retrieve Fulcrum intelligence.

Pete and Myka are on the trail of a team of bank robbers who use a very unusual weapon. Battlestar Galactica’s Tricia Helfer guests as an FBI agent.

For their first assignment, they are sent to Iowa to investigate an artefact belonging to a college student who went berserk while chanting an incantation.

An investigation into a hit-and-run leads to a property scam, but Green and Lupo’s undercover work takes a surprising twist that pits McCoy against the US Attorney’s office.

12m’t, Rick & Steve: The Happiest Gay Couple in All the World, E4
NEW SERIES Ok, it’s not a drama, but drama queens will just love this out-there animation. In the second series opener, Evan becomes an internet sensation with his creepy video diary of Dana giving birth.

While getting some serious R&R, Mike helps out in a bar run by the wife of his late friend Sonny. But events take a turn for the worse when he discovers someone is trying to force her out.

In one of the funniest episodes so far, Betty is in a fighting mood when an ELLE assistant (guest star Nikki Blonsky of Hairspray fame) plays dirty in order to win over Jodie, the head of YETI (the always brilliant Bernadette Peters).

9pm, CSI: Miami, Five
Delko is almost killed when a bullet flies through the window of the motel where he is staying and later quizzes his mother Carmen (played by Oscar-nominated Adriana Barraza) about his mysterious biological father.

9pm, Ghost Whisperer, Living
Melinda agrees to show Sam exactly what she does with the spirit world, while at the same time having to deal with a bizarre case involving a haunted nursery school built on the site of a former asylum.

9pm, Chuck, Virgin1
Chuck and Sarah pose as a suburban married couple to investigate the case of a former agent who has been discovered in a very disturbed state. Naturally, things don’t quite go to plan and Chuck finds himself in trouble with his neighbours.

11pm, Law & Order, Sky1 & Sky HD
The triple homicide of three roommates appears to be a murder-suicide, the grim result of a lovers’ quarrel. But after closer inspection, the case begins to involve a politically connected con man.

With a brutal murderer at large, Horatio’s investigation leads him to an overzealous police officer, while Natalia uses her forensics skills to locate the scene of the latest abduction.

Melinda is under pressure to find the best time to tell Sam about her gift, but her plans are ruined by the appearance of a dubious ‘ghost buster’ at a neighbour’s house.

Have your TVSW 3D glasses at the ready for this special episode. Chuck and the team have to protect guest star Dominic Monaghan (yep, it’s Charlie from Lost) who plays an international rock star someone is intent on killing. Now why is that? Playing to type, maybe?

Lupo and Green have to walk a delicate tightrope when investigating the racially charged murders of a white boy and a black girl.

The crime drama celebrates its 150th episode with an investigation into the abduction of a baby girl, snatched from her mother’s arms. After the family receive a ransom demand, Horatio and the team are shocked to find the prime suspect shot dead.

A girl goes missing during an initiation ritual at college and Melinda has to decide if she can count on the ghost of a former sorority member (guest star Andrea Bowen of Desperate Housewives fame) for help. However, as she delves deeper, she lies to Sam about her whereabouts, making him question the future of their relationship.

It’s Christmas Eve and the staff at the Buy More store are dressed as elves as they put up decorations for the annual sale. But then a car chase they have been following on TV ends up at the store and everyone is taken hostage by the fugitive.

A lawsuit over missing pants becomes a murder case when the defence lawyer is killed. The investigation takes an unexpected turn when Detectives Green and Lupo uncover a connection to a large retail corporation that employs a shady businessman.

When a wiped Dr Saunders, aka Whiskey, reveals herself, the group learn that only Echo’s imprint holds the key to their survival.

Melinda and Sam volunteer to act as chaperones at a school dance, where Melinda encounters the ghost of a mother who is concerned about the company her teenage daughter is keeping.
