Countdown to series 5 of The Wire | The prequels

I’ve always been a fan of a good back-story and this trio of cute little prequels, cooked up by HBO as part of the publicity campaign for the fifth series when it aired in America earlier this year, are a real gem.

The first clip, set in 1962, shows a young Proposition Joe hustling his way at school; the second, set in 1985, shows a young Omar on one of his first stick-ups; and the the third, set in 2000, shows the first time Bunk and McNulty met. Enjoy!

1) The next series of Desperate Housewives will be set five years in the future.

2) Izzie’s dead fiance Denny Duquette, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, is returning to Grey’s Anatomy.

3) Wendell Pierce, aka the magnificent Bunk Moreland in The Wire, will be in David Simon’s next project, Treme.

4) All of the Oceanic Six will contemplate returning to the island in the next series of Lost.

5) The second series of Dirty Sexy Money will be dirtier and sexier. Watch the new trailer if you don’t believe us.

6) iTunes store censors Mad Men (sort of).

7) David Arquette, aka Mr Courteney Cox, will appear in the next series of Pushing Daisies.

8) And finally… our list of the day: The 50 Biggest Emmy Snubs.
