If you loved Sex and the City, then you won’t want to miss Lipstick Jungle, the latest new comedy-drama from SATC creator Candace Bushnell.

The series follows the lives and loves of three feisty businesswomen living it large in The Big Apple. Wendy, played by Suddenly Susan star Brooke Shields, is a big-shot film executive; Nico, played by 24 and The Nine actress Kim Raver, is editor-in-chief of top fashion magazine Bonfire; and Victory, played by Lindsay Price, is a fashion designer who’s desperately trying to revive her failing business.

After watching the first episode, I think it’s safe to say that Lipstick Jungle will be rather more popular with the ladies here at TV Spy Towers than the men. It’s very reminiscent of SATC – the witty one-liners come thick and fast, and there’s always time for some retail therapy while they’re trying to sort out a host of dilemmas. And boy, do these girls have dilemmas.

In a sexless marriage, Nico’s fallen for toyboy Kirby (Robert Buckley) - who reminds me of Jason Lewis’s character Smith in SATC – while at work, she’s fighting a losing battle against her sexist boss (played by Brit actor and fellow 24 alumni Julian Sands). Wendy, meanwhile, is trying to get Leonardo DiCaprio (no, he’s not in it, more’s the pity) to commit to her latest movie project, while back home her hubby Shane (played by another Brit, Paul Blackthorne) is feeling emasculated playing the stay-at-home dad. Finally, Victory is being chased by a smug, egotistical zillionaire who’s played by 1980s Brat Packer Andrew McCarthy (yikes, has he aged!).

The first episode ends with the trio looking out over the New York skyline, devouring cupcakes and quaffing champagne. Just fab! Can’t wait for the next episode.
