Okay, so it may not have been brilliantly acted, it may have lacked snazzy CGI and it had wobbly, cheap-looking sets, but Saved By The Bell kept us highly entertained throughout the early 90s. So, whatever happened to Zack, Screech and the rest of the big-haired TV gang? You’ll be amazed…

Five amazing facts about John From Cincinnati

We’re already getting excited about paranormal surf drama John From Cincinnati’s imminent arrival on FX in November, and have just discovered the following five facts:

1) The mysterious John in the series’ title isn’t really called John and doesn’t come from Cincinnati. Rumour has it that he could controversially possibly even be Jesus Christ.

2) The story takes place over the course of 9 days, and was filmed in and around Imperial Beach, California. Most of the city’s 27,500 inhabitants were happy about the crew’s arrival, with everyone from local schoolkids to a couple in their 70s landing parts as extras.

3) The show premiered in the US to critical acclaim. ‘As profane as Deadwood and as profoundas The Sopranos, the series strikes every right chord,’ said the New York Post, while LA Weekly called it, ‘Mesmerising and entertainingly confounding.’

4) Wipeout! The series was cancelled in the US straight after the season 1 finale. Boooo!

5) Things are looking up for newcomer Austin Nichols who plays John (pictured above) as he’s just joined the cast of One Tree Hill for season 6.

More about John From Cincinnati soon, but in the meantime, here’s another trailer…

Luke Perry is back in John From Cincinnati!

Luke Perry as Linc

90210 fans rejoice! Luke Perry may not be returning to the Peach Pit just yet, but he will be starring in gritty new surfer drama John From Cincinnati which is coming to FX in November.

The series, created by Deadwood’s David Milch, tells the story of surfing’s most dysfunctional family, the Yosts, who, despite their amazing surfboard talents, live a meagre life on California’s Imperial Beach. Their lives are thrown into chaos when the mysterious John Monad (Austin Nichols) suddenly arrives, triggering all kinds of paranormal events.

Perry is cash hungry promoter Linc Stark, who is still blamed for standing  by while his former client and star surfer Butchie Yost (Brian Van Holt) became hooked on drugs. The series co-stars Rebecca de Mornay as matriarch Cissy Yost and Bruce Greenwood as her zenned out husband Mitch Yost.

And Luke Perry isn’t the only blast from the past in the show. Saved by the Bell alumnus Mark-Paul ‘Zach Morris’ Gosselaar stars as Linc’s business partner Jake Ferris, while Sex and the City’s Willie Garson (Stanford Blatch) plays brilliantly-named lawyer and surf fan Meyer Dickstein.
