It takes a lot to stop Jack Bauer in his tracks, but not even he could stop the Hollywood writers’ strike putting the kibosh on any chance of a new series of 24 airing this side of Christmas.
Happily, though, Fox have just announced that there is going be a special two-hour prequel in November which will bridge the gap between days six and seven. The episode will be filmed in South Africa and will find our hero battling an international crisis while America prepares for the inauguration of a new president.
Casting news is a little thin on the ground at the moment, but TV Guide has reported that Robert Carlyle will play a character called Benton, who is Jack’s mentor in Africa.

Kev, as far as we know Sky1 will be showing it within days (if not hours) of its broadcast in the US, and that is scheduled for Sunday 23 November.
