At last! Sarah Michelle Gellar’s making her TV comeback!

Sarah Michelle Gellar

It’s been five long years since Buffy staked her last vamp on TV - but, at last, Sarah Michelle Gellar is gearing up for her return to the small screen. Word reaches TV Spy towers that Sarah is soon to start filming The Wonderful Maladys - a dark comedy drama series for top cable channel HBO.

Focusing on a trio of adult siblings who’ve never fully dealt with being orphaned at a young age, the pilot episode is to be shot early next year and is being fast-tracked by the channel. Sarah’s character is described as having “a kind of zealous immaturity - like a drug addict with a to-do list.” As Buffy was always at its best when the title character was out of control, we reckon this is the perfect vehicle for Miss Gellar’s TV return.

Another new 24: Redemption trailer

You may decide 2008 is the year you start celebrating the American tradition of Thanksgiving, since that’s when the one-off 24: Redemption episode will be airing in the States, with the promise of Sky1 airing it not long after here in the UK… Here’s a new, very short trailer, complete with plenty of drums, drama and explosions. Let the countdown begin! By the way, if you fancy yourself as a bit of a Jack Bauer type, why not go the whole hog and get the costume? Not sure if the facial scars come with it, or if they’re model’s own…

Five Days Until Heroes Returns

Heroes Series 3

It’s time to start getting excited… Only 5 days to go until the thrilling third series of Heroes hits our screens.

After a bit of a disappointing second series we here at TV Spy are really looking forward to feasting our eyes on some of the awesome new super-powers that will be on display in series 3 - Villains. With Super-strength, Super-Speed, a couple of fortune tellers and plenty of fire throwers in the mix it promises to be a very exciting season indeed.

If thats not enough to get you interested, it looks like we will be finding out the identity of Mama Petrelii’s third child very early on in the series. But that is only one of the many questions being posed by the latest series. With probably the most important questions being who will turn out to be good? Who will turn out to be evil? Why does Matt talk to a turtle? and will Mohinder finally get interesting?

We’ve put together a gallery of all the biggies from the series. Click on the pictures for a close-up.

And if all that wasn’t enought, here’s Masi Oki on set in “Africa” talking about the new series to further whet your appetite.

This weekend’s big US dramas

HEROES, SEASON 3 - DAPHNE AND HIRO

Fri, 9pm, Heroes Countdown, BBC3
NEW The new series starts next week, and this little treat will help to get you all psyched up for it, with sneak peeks, behind-the-scenes footage and an introduction to new characters. Plus, interviews with stars of the show and celebrity fans attending the premiere party. Does this officially count as hero worship?

Fri, 9pm, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Hallmark
Logan and Wheeler investigate a case which is best described as a thinly veiled copy of the life and death of Anna Nicole Smith and her son, with a lot of artistic licence regarding both characters’ deaths.

Sun, 10pm, Desperate Housewives, E4
Susan gets a visit from Mike’s Southern Belle mum, who sets to work right away doing what every good mother-in-law does best, irritating Susan. Meanwhile Edie finds out the truth about Benjamin and tries to use it to blackmail Bree into providing a bottomless supply of muffins.

Sun, 10pm, Breaking Bad, FX
NEW SERIES This show has been on our radar for a few months now so we’re very excited it has finally reached UK screens. Malcolm in the Middle star Bryan Cranston stars as a chemistry teacher who discovers he has terminal cancer and hatches a plan to secure his family’s financial future by putting his scientific knowledge to use making crystal meth. Imagine Weeds if it was directed by Quentin Tarantino and you might get some sense of how dark the show is… As with all good shows, it has decent virals accompanying it, including this clip which you can personalise and send to all your couch-potato mates at waltswisdom.com

TV Spylights | The pick of the past week on TV Spy

spylightswk41.jpg

• You’d think we’d be sick of the sight of Walliams and Lucas by now, but we just can’t get enough of Little Britain USA clips.

• Pete was suitably impressed with the dextrous twists of the Dexter season two finale, and started getting excited about what’s to come in season three.

• Jeremy saved us all a lot of time with a full round-up of the winners and losers of this year’s Emmys.

• Ben unearthed footage of Michael Phelps in a spoof version of Grey’s Anatomy wearing an extremely brief pair of speedos that left us all rather hot under the collar. McSwimmy indeed!

• We realised how fortunate we are here at TV Towers, not having a boss like Michael from The Office with his ‘hilarious’ sense of humour…

• Mandy paid tribute to the doyenne of thriftstore fashion, Ugly Betty and tracked down the clip of Amanda rocking out about her dad, Kiss frontman Gene Simmons.

• All this, and ANOTHER SUPERNATURAL COMPETITION!

Gene Simmons guests on Ugly Betty

If you missed Gene Simmons’ guest slot last week, he’s back in the episode ‘The Kids are Alright’ showing Thursday 9 October on E4.

In the meantime, check out Amanda’s hilarious rock chic act as she sings to her daddy, the Kiss legend.

Ugly Betty’s Wardrobe

We just love Ugly Betty’s geek chic. The PA’s wardrobe just gets more outrageous each week. We’ve picked out six of our favourite Betty outfits from this series – check out the clashing prints, reds mixed with purples and the girl has more granny knits than an old folk’s home. This woman’s no shrinking violet when it comes to fashion!

Oh and by the way, if anyone knows where I can buy the red dogs-in-spotty-jackets skirt, (pic 1) let me know!

Great news for fashionistas, Patricia Field is taking over the Ugly Betty wardrobe in series three (she dressed Carrie and co on Sex and the City) so we’ll see even more designer names clamouring to be worn by TV’s boldest clothes horse. Take a peak at some of the couture she handled on the Sex and the City movie… They’re in for a treat at Mode…
