As it’s Friday (there really is no other reason) here’s our Top Five favourite children’s TV theme tunes, in no particular order and for those (Chatterbox included) of a certain age…
Jonny Briggs (BBC1) Probably the most instantly recongnisable first and last musical note of any theme. Just ask any passing stranger aged in their thirties (approach with caution). The show spawned several catchphases, including ‘My mum, who’s a nurse…’.
Jossy’s Giants (BBC1) A cracking series penned by darts commentating legend Sid Waddell (check out these quotes) following the exploits of a Geordie youngsters football team. The two lads playing up front epitomised what football players would become during the Premier League era.
Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds (BBC1) This, along with our final two choices, is one of a number of 1980s kids shows that seemed to go on forever with no hint of a plot denouement on the horizon (see also Dungeons and Dragons and The Mysterious Cities of Gold). Check out this great fan site.
Around the World with Willy Fog (BBC1) Michael Palin’s got nothing on this! Clearly the greatest interpretation of the Jules Verne novel.
Ulysses 31 (BBC1, again) We at Chatterbox can’t really remember what the hell this was all about but the into rocked. Was there a Ulysses 1?
