Strictly Come Dancing (BBC1, 8.00pm)
Unless you’ve been living under a rock these past few days, you will be well aware that Brucey and Tess return this evening (yes, a Friday show to compliment the Saturday prgramme for the first couple of weeks) for the umpteenth series of pro-celebrity ballroom dancing. Much credit should go to the BBC publicity department as this show has been all over the newspapers this week and even on TV news channels today. Is it really news that a TV show, that’s on every year, is back? I’ve swayed off the point a little there. Only half the field will compete this week, the rest in seven days. Tonight’s dancers are Ali Bastian, Lynda Bellingham, Joe Calzaghe, Ricky Groves, Martina Hingis, Chris Hollins, Jade Johnson and Rav Wilding. Former champion Alesha Dixon replaces Arlene Phillips on the judging panel. A good decision in Chatterbox’s opinion, and nothing to do with age. Arlene certainly knows her onions but her delivery to camera was dreadful and getting worse with every passing series.
Peep Show (Channel 4, 10,00pm)
Few people, probably least of all writers Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain, would have believed this show would run for six series. Yes, it’s weathered a little with age, but who hasn’t? Mark and Jeremy (Robert Webb and David Mitchell, in their best roles) are trying to enjoy the final days before Sophie’s baby is born, ignoring the fact that one of them is the father. A subplot sees Mark trying to get Jeremy a job; hasn’t he been trying to do this since the programme began?
True Blood (FX, 9.00pm)
After waking up naked on Sookie’s bed last week, Sam’s secret is most definitely out and will take some serious explaining. After killing one of his own, Bill must face a vampire court (a bit like a kangaroo court but with more teeth and less bouncing), while the stress of keeping a vampire in his basement is starting to tell on Jason. Watch out for actor Zeljko Ivanek looking almost as pale as he did as Ray Fiske in Damages. For those of you without access to FX and are wondering what all the fuss is about, Channel 4 will start showing this series in a couple of week’s time.
