The story begins in Victorian England but soon moves into a more magical realm when shop assistant Tristan Thorn (Charlie Cox) enters the fairy kingdom of Stormhold to retrieve a fallen star for his beloved Victoria (Sienna Miller). But the star has taken the form of a young woman called Yvaine (Claire Danes) and their return journey to the real world is filled with dangers.
Along the way, Tristan encounters four rival princes, an evil witch (Michelle Pfeiffer), and a cross-dressing pirate named Captain Shakespeare (Robert De Niro) and eventually discovers the meaning of true love.
